Today, it doesn't appear on the preview. I'm not looking again, though, till I finish with this.

Christmas is still continuing! I got a new computer desk today. This does, however, change my ways of doing things - so, adaptability is the key.

Right now, I have too many projects to work on. I'll have to continue tomorrow.

---

At one time I was very interested in Buddhist thought. That was many years ago, but my interest returned in 2005, while reading the Dhammapada.

Last night I was very impressed reading some of Dogen's thoughts. I will be adding more of his quotes in future blogs.
--

Enlightenment does not divide you, just as the moon does not break the water.
You cannot hinder enlightenment, just as a drop of water does not hinder the moon in the sky.
- Eihei Dogen

When you find your place where you are, practice occurs, actualizing the fundamental point.
When you find you way at this moment, practice occurs, actualizing the fundamental point; for the place, the way, is neither large nor small, neither yours nor others'. The place, the way, has not carried over from the past and it is not merely arising now.
- Eihei Dogen
------------------

I really have too much on my plate to pay much attention to the upcoming federal election.
I do agree though, with comments that the Liberals mishandled their campaign.
Instead of coming out strongly and listing their accomplishments, they chose to portray Stephen Harper as a scary bugaboo, while Harper's camp smoothed over his rough edges.
Harper has youth on his side - a strong point in any election.
---

The Windows GUI interface over-emphasizes the mouse.
I've found that typing the first few letters of a program or file or folder to open it, is faster than any mouse-click combination.
Hot keys are great for a few things; too many, and you have to worry about conflicts. Too many, and you'll forget them.
I'm glad I took touch typing in school
---

The great tragedy is that the vast resources available on the internet are being used so sparingly. Just look at the subjects people are searching for.
Hope springs eternal though, and the possibilities for mental and spiritual growth are enormous.

not sure

- moving along slowly, with a clock, and a link; make that just a clock

Again, in the world of freeware; I've decided, for now, on Toolbox as a program launcher. Things also seem to get more complicated.

In winter at least, I can put my glasses in my coat - if I remember. In warm weather, sticking them in my jeans is not a good idea, and I just don't have a pocket for them.
I need them now. I can read a book title, but not the smaller fonts on the pages.

Yes, well, the joys of getting old. People give you a bit more room on the sidewalk, as they're afraid you'll fall onto them. My hearing is bad, which helps to filter out some of the noise pollution. I imagine these minor aches and pains are designed to toughen me up, and are just a prelude to bigger and better aches and pains.

On a lighter note, the church of the sub-genius, which goes back to 1953, is predicting the end of the world on July 5, 2006.

I'm taking a look at the Rexx, language, remembering it from using OS/2.
I seem to be doing a lot of jumping between languages, and justify this to myself, with the goal of compiling one of my own - someday - down the road - just over that hill in the distance.
I'm narrowing down the choices though. I like Just Basic and Ibasic.
Note that I stick with freeware, and there are deep and dark reasons for that.
I've let go of Pawn and Gentee, just yesterday.
Autorun is another language I'm much impressed with.
Leopard is dumbed down to the point of uselessness.
There are many others I've taken a look at. I don't want to invest the time in learning a complicated new language such as C++. Or Prolog, or even Pascal.
The ideal language I'm looking for doesn't exist.

-------
"If you really want to enslave people, tell them that you're going to give them total freedom."
- L. It's either my second or third.
After the malicious worms and germs (that we're all familiar with) infected my computer, I had no choice but to reformat.
I forgot that I had a blog until I received an email response to it. I've no idea where it is, but it's several months old.
Well, at least someone read it, so I'll try again in earnest.
It's important to be earnest.

I don't have a lot of time to spend on this, so no bells and whistles for awhile. I tried uploading a picture - didn't work.

short bio; 52 year old Canadian
interests: the meaning of life

I expect I'll post a quote with each blog, and with most, recommend a book.
Also expect some software (freeware) reviews, and comments on current events.

So far, the year is starting well. I now have a CD R/W drive, and have
just done a memory upgrade.
On the downside, I didn't hear from either of my kids this Christmas.
No, can't end this first blog on a down note.
Okay then, this seems a good time for a quote.
- - - - -

Never explain.
